A print-finish mockup shows a physical finish, such as metallic foil, spot varnish or embossing, on a design placed in a photo, so the client sees the effect before the job goes to the printer.
The finishes
| Finish | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Foil | Gold, silver or copper, flat or raised. A Sheen setting adds a slight ripple and reflects the scene. |
| Spot varnish | A glossy coat over part of the design, flat or raised. |
| Emboss | The paper pushed up by the shape. |
| Deboss | The shape pressed into the paper, really recessed. |
Finishes stack. A logo can be gold and embossed, a pattern can carry a spot varnish. Each finish is listed under its layer, one star per finish.
Move the light
Turn the light around the mockup and the metal and the varnish catch it in real time. Match the Photo sets the light to the scene's own in one click, and you can apply the same light to every mockup of the project.
The shape comes from an image
The area of a finish is an image: your logo, a monogram, a pattern. Muckup turns it into a black-and-white mask, so nothing is traced by hand. Hold ⌥ while dropping an image on a layer and it becomes that layer's finish instead of replacing the design.
Finish only
Hide the print and keep the finish: a blind emboss, a varnish on bare paper, foil without ink. One click on the eye in the layer's thumbnail.
The gold that follows the light is what makes a client believe the card.
